Afforestation of Blank Areas in Irrigated Plantations of Punjab

The project is in consistence with the overall Scopes of forestry sector viz-a-viz improvement of environment, rehabilitation of climate, rehabilitation of flora and fauna to control pollution, to rehabilitate forest, wildlife and other vulnerable eco-systems. It is in line with international and national obligations regarding forestry resources. It is also in line with national climate change policy and its implementation framework. The proposed project addresses Punjab growth strategy issues and parameters. Acute shortage of timber and firewood in the country warrants to bring the maximum area under tree cover. The project is formulated for improving the tree growth on blank areas of the Kamalia, Shorkot, Khushab, Bhakkar, Kundian, Chichawatni, Bahawalpur, Layyah, Rajanpur, M-Garh, Changa Manga, Daphar, D.G. Khan and R.Y. Khan irrigated plantations. These areas include blank and poorly stocked areas of irrigated plantation.

The project mainly aims at developing the forestry resource on the available blank land in irrigated plantations for producing timber/firewood and to fight pollution.
