Why is the forest area not increasing despite of planting millions of plants every year? |
Top |
Punjab Forest Department is planting millions of plants every year but forests are declining day by day. In Pakistan, forests constitute 5% of the total area of the country whereas Punjab Forest Department has only 3% tree cover in comparison to world standards of 25% Forest Land. As these forests are providing fire wood and timber to fulfill the demand of the country, so millions of trees are being cut and millions new saplings are being planted every year. As far as public forests are concerned, no new land has been added to it, so it is out of question to increase the tree cover in the country in this manner. |
|
|
Is it true that forest fires occur due to Forest officials/ officers who try to hide their corruption? |
Top |
It is not true. Forest fire is a natural phenomenon and is very common in Forests of USA and other advance / developed countries too but frequency of such fires is very low in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab province. Forest fires have a lot of benefits but if they are uncontrollable, it causes huge damages to trees and properties. |

|
How can Punjab Forest Department play a vital role in pollution control? |
Top |
Air pollution is due to gases emitted from factories, industries etc which can only be absorbed by the trees by acting as sinks of carbon dioxide from air and producing oxygen to maintain the balance of gases in the atmosphere. The trees also play vital role in controlling of noise pollution, water pollution etc. Not only is the balance of gases kept constant but green house gas, CO2, is sequestered by forest trees and helps to combat global warming. |
