The Cholistan desert is located in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawal nager Districts. The soils of the tract are saline, alkaline and gypsiferous. The area consists of shifting sand dunes. The dunes reach height of about 100m in greater Cholistan. The area is subject to wind erosion. Rainfall is erratic and ranges from 100 to 200 mm. Mean minimum and maximum temperatures are 2˚C and 40˚C respectively.
