Chief Minister’s Special Initiative for Mass Afforestation in Punjab
An area of 2530.66 acres will be planted under Chief Minister's (Punjab) initiative programme in various irrigated plantation of Punjab. It shall improve the environmental and aesthetic conditions of the area and will yield tremendous financial returns and economic benefits through production of wood and wood products. It  will also provide wildlife habitat  and thus conserve the flora and fauna. It shall also provide employment opportunities to the local people. The period of this activity is 2013-14 to 2017-18.
     
Satellite Based GIS Mapping of Major Forests of Punjab for REDD+ Readiness

GIS Lab has been established under Chief Minister's Initiative in Punjab Forest Department. In phase-I the GIS base mapping of six plantations were completed, District wise land cover atlas of Punjab was prepared using Landsat imagery, Forest area book (2012-13) with respect to forest type and legal status was prepared for the first time. Imparted GIS training to 500 Officers and officials of the Department. During current year Forest type atlas consisting of area and location of forests has been prepared. Moreover training of the trainers to 96 persons has been imparted regarding GIS and GPS. Basic forest data as well as revenue record of 34 forest divisions is being collected and compiled. Resultantly the management, conservation and protection of forests has improved GIS base mapping of seven major irrigated and seven riverain plantations over an area of 61799 acres and fixation of 1880 boundary pillars along boundaries of various forests in D.G. Khan, Rawalpindi circle and Bhakkar Range Managemnet Division are in progress, beside procurement of equipments to strengthen the forest GIS Lab. An area of 160804 acres will be tackled in future for mapping. The period of this activity is 2013-14 to 2015-16
 

     
Afforestation of Forest Lands Retrieved from Encroachers in Southern Zone, Multan
An area of 932 Acres, after retrieval from encroachers, has been afforested which is being maintained similarly 3664 acres has also been retrieved from enchrochers which will be planted next year. It will provide timber, fire wood and  habitat for wildlife and also improve the environment of the area.The period of this activity is 2008-09 to 2013-14
