Chichawatni Reserved Forest is situated in District Sahiwal along Lahore – Karachi Railway Line between Kassowal and Dad Fatiana Railway Stations. The plantation is almost linear in form. It is bounded by the railway line in the South and Lower Bari Doab Canal in the North.It has total area of 11531 acres. Chichawatni irrigated plantation receives its irrigation from the Lower Bari Doab Canal through two forest distributaries. The sanctioned canal water discharged for the plantation is 153 cusecs.The configuration of the ground is more or less flat.The parent material of the plantation consists of loamy soil. The soil pH value of Chichawatni Plantation is 8.70 on an average. Climate of the tract is mainly dry. Summers are extremely hot while the winters are comparatively short but severe. May and June are the hottest months, whereas December and January are the coldest months. Frequent hot windstorms in summer (especially during May and June) add to the harshness of climate. In July and August spells of ran are followed by sultry oppressive weather. Dust and sand storms, however, often come during April, May, July and August. Chichawatni Irrigated Plantation originally was a typical dry tropical forest. The indigenous flora was Wan (Salvadora oleoides). Frash (Tamarix articulate), Jand (Prosopis cineraria) and Karir (Capparis aphylla). Presently Shisham and Eucalyptus are the principal species growing over a major portion of the plantation area. Other species growing are Mulberry, semal, bakain and kiker. Bamboo are also grown on experimental basis. Every year about 500 acres are being afforestated / regenerated.
